Iten Vocational Training Centre (Iten VTC) proudly held its Successful Internal Skills Exhibition Day, a dynamic and transformative event that showcased the creativity, technical excellence, and innovative potential of learners across all departments. This audacious and vibrant day brought together students, instructors, parents, industry guests, junior secondary learners (JSs), alumni, and community members to witness the full spectrum of vocational training at its best.
The event served not only as a platform for students to present the practical projects they have been working on throughout the term, but also as a moment of reflection on the institution’s commitment to quality, relevance, and inclusivity in skills development. With each department exhibiting its capabilities, the day reaffirmed Iten VTC’s position as a leading centre for hands-on, competency-based training within Elgeyo-Marakwet County and beyond.
Adding even more inspiration to the day’s activities was the presence of Dan Dan, the visionary director of D-Square School of Fashion and Design, who graced the event as the guest motivational speaker, empowering learners with insight, passion, and encouragement grounded in real industry experience.
A Celebration of Skills, Creativity, and Practical Excellence
Every department at Iten VTC actively participated in the exhibition. Students worked collaboratively with instructors to prepare elaborate displays, demonstrations, and presentations that reflected the depth of their training and the hands-on competencies taught under the CBC/CBET model.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Giving Skills & Experience the Visibility They Deserve
One of the most powerful highlights of the event was the emphasis on RPL—Recognition of Prior Learning, a transformative process under TVET CDACC that allows skilled individuals to be assessed and certified based on what they already know and can do.
The exhibition featured:
Artisans and community members who have acquired skills informally
Demonstrations by individuals preparing for RPL assessments
Awareness sessions explaining how RPL can uplift livelihoods
This initiative demonstrated Iten VTC’s commitment to inclusive, community-centred training, ensuring that even those outside formal education pathways can access recognition, certification, and improved economic opportunities.
